Issaquah

Rich History & Natural Beauty

Nestled beneath the Cascade Mountains, Issaquah is home to 40,000 residents and has undergone significant changes in recent years. As a child, I remember exploring the fields and hills, but now many of those spaces have been transformed into high-end shopping, homes, and community areas. However, despite the growth, Issaquah has managed to preserve its small-town feel and heritage. It’s remarkable how the town has managed to maintain its charming character while still providing all the amenities needed for a bustling Seattle suburb.

As a self-proclaimed history enthusiast, I can’t help but be fascinated by the story of Issaquah and the Pacific Northwest. The city was officially incorporated on April 29, 1892, and was originally developed to serve the mining industry on the nearby Cougar and Squak mountains. However, as the mining deposits began to dry up in the late 1890s, other industries recognized Issaquah’s potential to support a thriving lumber business. After the Great Depression, Boeing became the primary employer in the region. To this day, both Boeing and Microsoft have had a significant impact on Issaquah’s history, cultural development, and diverse population through their active community participation and attraction of outside residents. In June of 1996, Costco moved its global headquarters to the area, cementing Issaquah’s status as a hub of activity and innovation.
