9 Quirky Attractions in the Puget Sound Area You Have to See

Background Photos 2 (Instagram Story)

The Pacific Northwest is known for its stunning natural beauty, coffee culture, and rainy days, but it’s also home to some truly unique and quirky attractions. Whether you’re a lifelong local or visiting for the first time, these offbeat destinations around the Puget Sound area are guaranteed to add a splash of whimsy to your itinerary.

Nestled under the Aurora Bridge, the Fremont Troll is one of Seattle’s most iconic oddities. This larger-than-life concrete sculpture clutches a real Volkswagen Beetle and has been delighting visitors since 1990. I remember being a bit scared to visit it as a kid because the idea of venturing under a bridge felt a little daring, but I’m so glad I did. It’s a quirky spot that never fails to bring out your adventurous side!

Love it or hate it, the Gum Wall is a must-see quirky spot near Pike Place Market. What started as a sticky tradition in the early 1990s has grown into a colorful, slightly gross, but oddly fascinating work of public art. The alley definitely has a whiff of Bubble Yum nostalgia, which adds to the experience. Plus, it’s a gateway to Pike Place Market itself, where you can easily spend an entire day exploring food, art, and local treasures.

In the Georgetown neighborhood, you’ll find an enormous cowboy hat and boots that once belonged to a 1950s western-themed gas station. Today, they’re a whimsical centerpiece at Oxbow Park.

Step into a treasure trove of oddities at this one-of-a-kind store on the waterfront. From shrunken heads to rare coins, Ye Olde Curiosity Shop has been delighting visitors with its bizarre collection since 1899. This is a staple for anyone visiting the waterfront. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve taken visiting family and friends here—it’s always a hit!

Fans of Twin Peaks won’t want to miss Twede’s Cafe, famously known as the Double R Diner. Stop by for a slice of their “damn fine cherry pie” and a coffee while soaking up the retro vibes. North Bend itself is a charming town with cute shops and sights within walking distance of the café, making it a perfect day trip.

Located on Highway 530, this hidden gem is an outdoor sculpture park filled with towering creations made entirely of scrap metal. Created by artist Kevin Pettelle, the sculptures range from abstract shapes to recognizable figures, each with a story to tell. The park feels like stepping into an industrial wonderland, where creativity meets sustainability. It’s also a fantastic spot for photographers or anyone looking for a unique roadside attraction.

Pro Tip: Take your time to explore and bring a camera—the details in these sculptures are incredible up close.

Tucked inside the Renton History Museum, this exhibit explores the lore of Bigfoot, sea serpents, and other legendary creatures said to roam the PNW. As a Renton local, I think the Renton History Museum itself is an added bonus. Make sure to walk around and enjoy the incredible stories and history of our Puget Sound area’s coal mining and logging roots. I try to visit as often as I can since the exhibits are always evolving and showcasing something new.

This drive-through animal park is famous for its waving bears that greet visitors. Originally a retirement home for movie animals, the Olympic Game Farm is now a quirky wildlife experience that’s unlike any zoo. It’s a fun and interactive experience where you can get up close with animals in a way that’s both unique and family-friendly.

Pro Tip: Bring whole wheat bread (the animals love it!) and prepare for some unexpected laughs as llamas and zebras poke their heads into your car for a snack.

📍 Address: 1423 Ward Rd, Sequim, WA 98382

For beer lovers, this attraction combines local brews and a scenic train ride through the Snoqualmie Valley. Sip on seasonal craft beers while taking in views of the stunning Snoqualmie Falls.

Pro Tip: The train often features special seasonal themes, so check the schedule ahead of time for events like Oktoberfest or holiday rides!
